Workshop Safety Agreement

At Women’s Shed Aotearoa, we create a welcoming, hands-on space where wāhine can learn practical skills, share knowledge, connect with others, and grow in confidence. We are committed to fostering a warm, supportive environment grounded in manaakitanga, where everyone feels safe and included.

Our workshops involve the use of tools and equipment, so your safety and wellbeing, and that of everyone in the Shed, is very important to us. We ask all participants to take a moment to read and agree to this Safety Agreement.

By taking part in our workshops, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

Taking Part

I understand that I am choosing to take part in a workshop that may involve using tools, equipment, and materials. Some of these activities carry risks, and I’m happy to participate with this understanding.

Understanding the Risks

I know that working with tools and building projects can sometimes lead to injuries, from small things like cuts or bruises to more serious harm. I take responsibility for my participation and will take care while I’m involved.

Learning and Following Guidance

Our facilitators and volunteers are here to support me. I agree to listen carefully, follow all safety instructions, and ask questions if I’m unsure. I will only use tools once I’ve been shown how to use them safely.

Wearing the Right Gear

I agree to wear appropriate protective gear when needed, such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and suitable footwear, to help keep myself and others safe.

My Health and Wellbeing

I confirm that I feel well enough to take part. If I have any injuries, health conditions, or limitations that could affect my safety, I will let the team know.

Looking Out for Each Other

I will contribute to a respectful, inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and safe. I’ll act responsibly and avoid any behaviour that could put myself or others at risk.

If Something Goes Wrong

If there’s an accident or emergency, I’m happy for the Women’s Shed Aotearoa team to arrange medical help for me if needed.

Responsibility

While Women’s Shed Aotearoa takes all reasonable care to provide a safe environment, I understand that I take part at my own risk, in line with New Zealand law.

Photos and Stories

From time to time, we capture photos, videos, or stories to celebrate and share our mahi. I’m happy for these to be used for promotional or educational purposes. If I’d prefer not to be included, I’ll let the team know.

Acknowledgement

By joining a workshop, I confirm that I’ve read and understood this agreement and am happy to take part .
